Why You Need a Lawyer for Your SSD Case

|

Social Security Disability (SSD) is a government benefit program that may be available to American citizens who can no longer work due to permanent physical or emotional disability. At a minimum, you must meet the following three criteria to be eligible for payments:

  • You are unable to perform the work duties that you did before your disability.
  • The SSD office determines that you are unable to adjust to any other type of work.
  • You have been disabled for at least 12 months, expect to be disabled for a minimum of 12 months or your disability is likely to cause your death.

In addition to meeting these qualifications, you must submit medical proof of your condition. This includes all treatment notes and medications you take for your disability along with a statement from your doctor. The application for SSD further requires you to submit your birth certificate, a W2 statement or tax return and a summary of your work history.

Where your Social Security benefits lawyer comes in

Because the application for SSD is so lengthy and complicated, many people make errors that cause them to be denied benefits.
