ydroxycut Products and Liver Damage

Tulsa, Norman, Edmond, Oklahoma City, and McAlester, Oklahoma

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced last month that popular dietary weight loss supplements manufactured by Hydroxycut were being recalled due to their link to liver damage. Hydroxycut has been sold in chain stores across the country, including GMC and the Vitamin Shoppe. Hydroxycut includes pills, powders, and drinks that are marketed to burn calories and fat, control appetite and increase energy.

The FDA has received at least 23 reports of serious injuries as the result of this defective product, including the report of the death of a 19-year-old in 2007.  The liver problems documented by the FDA include:

  •  Cardiovascular problems
  •  Jaundice
  •  Seizures
  •  Liver failure

Liver damage symptoms may also include some not reported to the FDA, including:

  •  Itchy skin
  •  Stomach pain
  •  Dark colored urine
  •  Fatigue
  •  Nausea
  •  Vomiting
  •  Light-colored stool

A report states a liver transplant in 2002 may have been the result of liver failure after using Hydroxycut products. If you have been seriously injured because of Hydroxycut, please contact the experienced product liability lawyers at Stipe, Harper, Laizure, Uselton, Belote, Maxcey & Thetford.

The FDA states that adverse effects of using Hydroxycut are rare, but has asked all consumers to stop using the products immediately. Hydroxycut is manufactured by Iovate Health Sciences Inc. in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, and is distributed in the U.S. by Iovate Health Sciences USA Inc., of Basdell, New York. Iovate has agreed to voluntarily recall the affected products.
